Buy local! What are the benefits of buying locally in Savannah? First, you’ll be supporting the local economy. Second, in some cases you’ll be going green and helping your body! There are two certified organic farms near Savannah and two more on their way to being certified. There are local businesses that sell locally made, locally grown products. Whether they are organic, all-natural or just made here in the South, these businesses are the heart of Savannah. So where can you buy local?
• Nourish—a wonderful soap store downtown that sells natural, handmade soaps with no harsh ingredients! Some made from local ingredients like Moon River beer and Savannah Bee honey.
• Savannah Bee Company—locally produced, all-natural and just plain good for you AND delicious Savannah Bee Honey!
• Moon River Brewing Company—brewing their beers right here in Savannah!
• Polk’s Fresh Market—fresh local produce and good home cooking. Check out Polk’s for food, honey and more!
• Forsyth Farmers’ Market and Trustees Market—all locally grown and locally made produce and products! You’ll find all the in season vegetables at these locations, not to mention many wonderful arts and crafts from local artisans. Both Forsyth Farmers’ Market and Trustees Farmers Market occur weekly, but will not occur during the winter months. Look for them from May-November.
• Cha Bella—not only does Cha Bella use locally grown produce in their menu, but they run a farm box program, delivering local, organic produce to your door!
• Thrive—also uses organic and locally grown produce in their menu.
Of course, these aren't all of the great places where you can buy locally made and grown products in Savannah, but it's a start to help you get your new year off on the right foot.
