The Glam Squad is in Savannah!! Q & A with Jennifer Hagan
There are some amazing women in Savannah, and around the country who have battled some pretty serious events. There is an awesome group here in Savannah called the Glam Squad who is trying to give away a makeover of a lifetime to 6 lucky ladies who are battling cancer. Key to Savannah wanted to help the Glam Squad get the word out to make it happen!
What sparked the idea to give away makeovers to these lovely lucky ladies?
It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a while now, but had not had the opportunity. When Keely from BellaMae Models approached me about it, I took the reins and ran with it.
What is the purpose of the event?
To empower and uplift women who may have lost some of their self- esteem after having suffered some of the effects of cancer. We want to give these women a make-over and professional photo shoot, along with tips on make-up, hair/wigs, fashion, etc.
Why Savannah?
Keely moved here from the UK and after meeting with me decided that Savannah has the “heart” to take on this kind of project, along with the Bikini Nation & South Magazine connections with professional hair stylist, make-up artists, fashion designers, and photographers to make the project a success.
Who is the Glam Squad?
Keely founded the Glam Squad in the UK and then I came on board to head up the Savannah Glam Squad, along with the girls of Bikini Nation. We now have the American Cancer Society on board, along with the directors of the U Hatin? University (anti-violence/bullying) Campaign. Our main photographer is Tim Johnson and we have Mitchell Hall from Project Runway as the fashion stylist.
Does the Glam Squad do makeovers like these often?
In the UK, there were several Glam Squad makeovers, but this is the first one in the US.
What can they expect at the makeovers?
The women will receive professional make-up, hair styling or wigs, several designer clothing options, and a photo shoot. There will also be speakers focusing on empowering, encouraging, and uplifting women and a couple speakers discussing pointers on dealing with cancer and ways to make the best of the situation. One female will also be chosen to be featured in the next issue of South Magazine, and all 6 women will be featured on the South Magazine website.
Who is the photographer working with the Glam Squad?
Tim Johnson. Tim was the photographer for the 2011 Bikini Nation Save the Ta-Tas Breast Cancer Foundation Calendar, and has shot many of the South Magazine covers and feature stories.
Where will the photo shoots take place?
In the studio of Tim Johnson Photography in downtown Savannah. It’s one of the best studios I’ve seen with plenty of room!
How are the ladies chosen?
We will receive nominations from now until April 24th and will pick 6 women for the April 29th event. The remaining women will be invited to attend the next event, which we are hoping to have the beginning of June.
How can people nominate someone? And when is the deadline?
Send in the name, age, type of cancer, how long they have been battling cancer, photo, and why they should be chosen as a participant to jennifer@bikinination.net by April 24th.
Do they have to be a Savannah resident?
No
Who are the sponsors of the event?
So far we have American Cancer Society, Savannah Harley-Davidson, Southern Eagle Distributing, B&D Burgers, Holistic Health Center, Lairs Auto Electric, and Keller Williams, Personal Touch Collision
We would like to give a big thank you to Jennifer Hagan for taking the time to answer our questions. This will be an awesome event, and one for these lucky ladies to remember for a lifetime!
