Weather in Savannah
One of the top reasons that Savannah is such a popular tourist destination is the weather she boasts throughout the majority of the year. Summer months, which can be very hot and humid, are best spent on the beaches of nearby Tybee Island.
The spring and fall are the most popular travel times in Savannah for a reason. Spring and autumn high temperatures average 77° and 78° Fahrenheit respectively and the winter high average is around 62°. With the majority of the rain falling in the summer months you can feel confident that your trip will not be ruined by rain.
If you do plan to visit Savannah in the summer prepare for a hot, humid trip. Savannah averages about 50 inches of rain per year, and about half of that falls in the summer. High temperatures average 90 degrees in June, July and August, but they often climb to the upper 90s in the middle of the day. Make sure to not only dress accordingly, but also stay hydrated as heat strokes can ruin a trip.
Pack Accordingly
Savannah always has a lot to offer if summer is the only time that you are able to travel… just make sure to pack correctly for your trip. Shorts and a short-sleeve shirt are optimal and appropriate for most situations, but make sure to bring a pair of pants or formal dress for the nice dinner that you have planned. During the summer months, restaurants that would usually require a coat lower their restrictions to allow short sleeve collared shirts.
During months other than summer jeans are usually comfortable with a shirt that fits the occasion and temperature. Make sure to bring a light jacket as sometimes temperatures can drop suddenly at night.
Savannah is a great place to travel year round. Just make sure that you check the weather forecast and dress accordingly so that you can make the most of your trip.
