Why is it that so many drivers leave a large space between themselves and the car ahead at an intersection with traffic lights? I can see maybe a half a car length or one, but some are 2 or 3 behind. That means that people that need to turn can’t get into the lane. And I bet the very same people that leave such large spaces are the ones that tailgate out on a highway or in town.

My biggest peeve is drivers that do not use turn signals properly, if they use them at all. The purpose of using a turn signal is to alert others drivers of your impending turn. If you are the driver behind, the turn signal alerts you that the vehilce ahead of you will slow down to turn soon. If you are the driver across the street, it informs you of the direction the vihicle will turn. It does no good at all to turn on your signal once you have slowed down. The vehicle will turn without it. If I’m at a stop sign across from you and you have no signal, how will I know which direction you will turn?

Something that aggravates me is that finding an open restaurant downtown on a Sunday is much harder than it should be… yesterday my bf and I went to several different places before finally giving in to starvation and heading towards city market to get a slice of pizza from sweet melissa’s. Why aren’t more places open on Sundays???

I just found this site. I really like it. Much better than all of the negativity found on CL and other Savannah sites. I for one was born here, lived in savannah, richmond hill, and now Effingham county. I moved to New York for a brief 5 months and realized how great this place was. There are some bad points to the area, but way more good than bad. The scenery is beautiful, people for the most part friendly, and the weather is great. I love Savannah and am not afraid to say it! If you dont like our wonderful city, point your car north and drive!

I accept that I generally go against the flow. I’ve never been in step with the crowd… I’m usually leaving somewhere when everyone else is trying to get there. However, it seems that no matter which direction I try to go in Savannah, no matter what time of day, the traffic lights are timed to make my drive as slow and painful as possible.

Case in point: lights at Henry and Anderson traveling along Bull street.
These two lights are timed so badly that at almost any time of day you can expect to hit both lights for nearly their full durations in either direction. They are a block apart, and no major parking lots exist to feed them between the lights.

I can see no reason why they shouldn’t both turn green at the same time, and last long enough to get more than 1-2 cars under both lights. In my mind the time spent between these lights should be minimal at most. Yet every day trying to get to work I sit for 3-5 minutes waiting for each light, in turn, to give me the go-ahead.

Do the people responsible for setting up our traffic grid actually have to drive in it? I’d be depressed if I were this bad at my job.

Is it just me, or is service, especially in the food and beverage world, spotty at best in Savannah? We’re supposed to be the Hostess City of the South, and it seems like everywhere I go, it’s a crap shoot whether I’ll get a drink quickly, get my order taken correctly, or get my check in a timely manner. I don’t need anyone to fawn all over me, but I do expect decent service. And it is out there; there are some servers/bartenders/managers that take their jobs seriously, but far more often I can’t figure out why they’re there. It certainly isn’t to make money, as I (and I think most people) tip on service.

Anyone else see this as a problem to our enjoyment of Savannah and our city’s tourism industry, or am I being too picky?
