I think the Miley Cyrus movie filming will benefit Tybee in the near and distant future.  I realize that whatever happens, some people will benefit and some people will be inconvenienced.  I have a couple questions about the planning process for this major event.

When was the community informed that a movie was going to be filmed on Tybee?  I know it was announced in the newspapers, but were residents and/or business owners informed of the possibility?

I heard the filming at the carnival set was closed down due to extremely high tides last week.  When the city and the film execs were planning the schedule, didn’t anyone look at a tide chart and realize that it was high tide?  Even a regular high tide would have been disruptive to filming.

Though I cannot give you an exact date as to when the community of Tybee Island was notified about the movie production, I can tell you that there were several town hall meetings regarding the subject. There was also an article from the Mayor discussing the possibility of the filming. And, even though there were rumors circulating well before, the actual date that the film’s Special Event application was approved was on May 09, 2009.

As for the carnival scene, I honestly don’t know. You would think these production executives would think to look at something as obvious as a tide chart, but with so many other things on their plates, they probably just forgot.
