Why is it that so many drivers leave a large space between themselves and the car ahead at an intersection with traffic lights? I can see maybe a half a car length or one, but some are 2 or 3 behind.That means that people that need to turn can’t get into the lane. And I bet the very same people that leave such large spaces are the ones that tailgate out on a highway or in town.

that drives me nuts too! it’s ridiculous that people leave a limousine-size space in between themselves and another car… like come on people… just think about it!

I have this issue every morning at Victory and Skidaway when I am backed up on Victory for that very reason while I sit and watch the green left turn arrow onto Skidaway that I can’t get to.

not quite the same issue, but people space themselves out on Bull at Derenne (heading south) while waiting for that incredibly short light to turn green… and while they’re all sitting there everybody coming out of the two gas stations there decides to try to weave through the lanes (always trying to get to the opposite side of the road in an illegal left turn).  but of course they don’t make it all the way through, or there’s too much traffic to merge into coming from the other direction, so they get stuck perpendicular to everyone trying to actually travel along Bull and the end result is that nobody gets to move for another 5 minutes while we wait for the light to cycle around again.

newsflash: left turns across multiple solid yellow lines are illegal and discouraged for a reason, and no it’s not just to have another reason to write you a ticket.  get your gas at one of the other 10 stations in that area please.

GOOD DRIVING TELLS US THAT FOR SAFT ISSUES YOU SHOULD LEAVE A GOOD ENOUGH SPACE BETWEEN CARS SO THAT IF YOU HAVE TO ESCAPE IN A HURRY YOU WOULD HAVE ROOM TO MANUVER YOUR CAR. I.E. AN ATTEMPTED CARJACK,OTHER CARS RUNNING OUT OF CONTROL ETC. PROBALY A HALF A CAR LENGTH IS SUFFICIENT.

A good rule of thumb is to stop at a place where you can just see the tires of the car ahead of you.
