Savannah Cemeteries
Savannah’s cemeteries are well known for their peaceful and history soaked atmosphere. The 100 acre Bonaventure Cemetery is the final resting palce for famous Georgians Conrad Aiken, Johnny Mercer and Edward Telfair and also for many Confederate soldiers and World War heroes.
If you’re enjoying the beautiful downtown Savannah, you’ll find Colonial Park Cemetery nestled amongst the sweeping oaks of the Historic District. The six acre cemetery hosts more than 9,000 graves, including Button Gwinnett, a Georgia signatory on the Declaration of Independence, and William Scarbrough, a wealthy shipping merchant who owned the Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
