River Street is considered the shopping hub of Savannah, so it’s definitely worth the trip—just watch your step as you trek across the cobblestones! Galleries, pubs and restaurants, gift shops, boutiques and more occupy over 100 stops along the way. Many local artists and craftsmen sell their creations in shops on River Street. Stop by the River Street Marketplace on the east end of River Street to peruse through local vendors and artists displaying their work. However, keep in mind that visiting Savannah during St. Patrick’s Day will make shopping on River Street a little difficult. The city’s population becomes nearly seven times greater during this festive holiday, with hundreds of thousands of people descending on the city.
Traveler’s Tip: The steps from Bay Street to River Street can be quite treacherous. To avoid the steps, utilize the elevator located next to the Hyatt hotel.
