Historic Architecture
From the moment a visitor enters the historical district in Savannah, Georgia, he or she will be captivated by the architecture. The historical district has many of the original buildings and structures since Savannah was founded 250 years ago. Whether it is the clean, simple lines in a Colonial-style shop, the sweeping buttresses of a Gothic Revival chapel or the antebellum mansions, it takes one back to a different time. One of the most famous of the historical Savannah restaurants is the Olde Pink House. It was originally built in 1789 as a residence for a prominent founding family, the Habershams. It survived the fire of 1796 and is noted for its classic Georgian style and lovely pink stucco. All visitors would basically be enjoying the same ambiance as diners did in the last century in Savannah restaurants.

Historic Food
Many of the Savannah restaurants in the historical district have preserved Southern cooking heritage and have stayed true to heirloom recipes. Such distinction enables visitors a historic dining experience that they probably could not find in other Savannah restaurants downtown. Those who enjoyed the book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, may enjoy having lunch at Clary's Cafe, where the main character had many of his meals. If a person wants an eclectic dining experience, then a trip a café that blends a lot of traditional southern fare (such as grits and greens) with Cajun-style seafood and other delicacies would be in order. Those who would like the distinct air of a Southern tea room might enjoy a relaxing tea shop where they can chat and to look out the window to watch all the passersby while sipping on exquisite blends of tea. It is part of the historical Scottish-rite Masonic temple and serves some of the highest-rated Red Velvet cake in the South.
Historic Atmosphere
While walking down the streets and marveling at all the history in this district, the visitor will feel like he or she is living back in the days of the genteel South. Most of these historical buildings have modernized their internal amenities while preserving the original facade and architecture. One almost would expect to see Scarlet herself gliding down the staircases to greet her guests. Antique trees are loaded with Spanish moss and are accented with magnolia, gardenia and other Southern trademarks. Friendly locals often graciously point out some of the best restaurants in the area and will share some of its history. Many of these restaurants are within walking distance of other historical sites in the area. There are menus and settings that attract a variety of diners. The original architecture and vintage cuisine make eating in one of the several living museums worthy of being the best choice of Savannah restaurants.
